Part Time Bus Driver

General Description: Transportation of students for field trips, athletics and other School-approved events.  This position is a part-time, on call position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Must obtain/possess a valid CDL license with P and S endorsements and air brakes certification.
  • Driver must remain up to date with training and certification courses required by the State and County.
  • Conduct a pre-trip inspection every time the bus is driven.
  • The driver is responsible for the safe operation of the bus.
  • Communicate with the Bus Fleet Supervisor regarding all matters concerning training and certification, drive-time situations and emergencies, and any maintenance/service needs observed.
  • Drivers are given assignments by the SCS Transportation Coordinator.

Education/Certification Requirements:  High school diploma.  All School bus drivers must be licensed by the State of Michigan in accordance with current standards and requirements.

In order to apply, a driver must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • 21 years of age or older.
  • Valid driver’s license for at least three years.
  • No more than 4 points on driving record.
  • Subject to criminal screening and background check.

Experience:  The driver must have experience driving vehicles the size of the big buses or have at least 10 miles of orientation driving one of the big buses before transporting passengers.
