High School Science Teacher

Job Purpose:  Instructional responsibilities for Biology, AP Biology Courses, Anatomy and Physiology with the end goal of helping students achieve subject matter competency and positive academic results.

Minimum Qualifications:      

Mastery of pedagogical best practices
Ability to write curriculum that meets state benchmarks and national standards
Possess strong oral, written and organizational skills
Advanced computer skills and literacy (Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite)

Education:           

Bachelors in Education Or Bachelor’s in Science (Mandatory)
Concentration in Biology (Preferred)

Experience:        

Completion of a state approved/endorsed teacher preparation program (Mandatory)
Previous teaching experience at the High School level (Preferred)

Required:            

Valid Secondary Michigan Teaching Certificate (Mandatory)
Science Major/Minor (DA) endorsement (Mandatory)
Demonstrated personal walk with Jesus Christ (Mandatory)

Duties and Responsibilities:

Instructional

  • Instructional responsibility for Biology, AP Biology, and Anatomy and Physiology
  • Update AP Biology Course and curriculum based on revisions required by the College Board
  • Map, revise, and update curriculum for courses taught
  • Provide instructional support for students outside of the classroom
  • Participate in departmental meetings
  • Develop units and lesson plans
  • Provide individualized instruction in order to meet the needs of each student
  • Engage students in learning through best practice strategies
  • Keep appropriate records of student progress, prepares reports and communicates progress with families

Professional Development

  • Participate in ongoing professional development specific to the skills and competencies of the job
  • Participate in professional science organizations to stay informed regarding best practices and developments in the field of science instruction
  • Maintain up to date teacher certifications/licenses/endorsements

Work Schedule and Benefits:

  • 10-month position
  • 7:40-3:20 daily
  • Attend Faculty meetings (Monday 3:00-4:00)
  • Vacation schedule coincides with students
